Road - The Great Circle Route
Our new Traveler's Information Guide is availabe here to download. It includes tips to make your journey more enjoyable.
You can drive to Labrador via route 389/500 starting at Baie Comeau Quebec (Via 389), traveling north east to Route 500 (we call it the Trans Labrador Highway) to Labrador City and Wabush and then east past Churchill Falls towards Goose Bay and North West River. The new road link is now open between Goose Bay and Cartwright, on the Atlantic seaboard. Travellers can continue their road trips directly to the Labrador Straits for the ferry crossing of the Strait of Belle Isle from Blanc Sablon, Quebec to St. Barbe Newfoundland.
BE AWARE that this is mainly a gravel road, not paved, so please drive carefully.
You can also drive from the island of Newfoundland leaving from the northern penninsula at St. Barbe, crossing the Strait of Belle Isle on the ferry, the Appollo, porting at Blanc Sablon Quebec - then you can drive the scenic Labrador Coastal Drive and visit all of the communities in the Labrador Straits and south coast past Cartwright and onto Happy Valley-Goose Bay and then West to Labrador City.

SAFETY NEWS - There is NO cell phone service on this long route, but the Provincial Government has a program in place for you to "borrow" a satellite phone for use between Labrador City and Goose Bay and Port Hope Simpson. There is NO FEE for this service. Pick up and drop off points at the hotels in each town. For residents of Newfoundland you must provide a drivers licence or credit card. For non- residents, you must provide a credit card. The phones are only for emergency use and are programmed to enable direct calls to the police.
Satellite phones can now be picked up at the following participating hotels:
Wabush Hotel in Wabush;
Midway Travel Inn in Churchill Falls;
Hotel North Two and Royal Inn and Suites in Happy Valley-Goose Bay;
Cartwright Hotel in Cartwright;
Alexis Hotel in Port Hope Simpson;
Town Office in Charlottetown;
Riverlodge Hotel in Mary's Harbour; and,
Northern Light Inn in L'Anse au Clair.

You can visit western Labrador by air with daily flights stopping at Wabush Airport (YWK)on Provincial Airlines from St. John's, Deer Lake (via Goose Bay) or Montreal and Sept Isle. Car rentals and taxi services are available.
You can visit Central Labrador by air, with daily flights stopping at Goose Bay Airport (YYR) via Provincial Airlines St. John's, Deer Lake, or Montreal, or Air Canada from Halifax, St. John's, Gander and Labrador City. Car rentals and taxi services are available.
You can visit the Straits of Labrador by air, landing at Blanc Sablon, Quebec. Car rentals are available.
*New* Exploits Valley Air Services Ltd. (EVAS Air) has a scheduled charter flight service between Gander, Newfoundland and Iqaluit, Nunavut. Passengers will also be able to travel between Goose Bay and Iqaluit. The inaugural flight will depart Gander on Sunday, June 5th. The plane will travel each Sunday throughout the summer and follow this flight path sequence: Gander Goose Bay Iqaluit, Iqaluit Goose Bay Gander. Passengers will be allowed to travel between Gander and Iqaluit, and Goose Bay and Iqaluit.If you would like more information on the service or are interested in reserving a seat, please call (709) 256-7484 ext. 1 for Charters or email charters@evasair.com.

Rental Cars and Taxis
If you are flying here, you may need to rent a vehicle or use taxi service. Unfortunately, there is no public transportation service in the region. You cannot take most rental cars on the Trans Labrador highway.

Sea
In 2011, there is no ferry service between Happy Valley Goose Bay and the Island portion of the province.
If you plan to sail to the north coast, the MV Northern Ranger offers passage to the north coast communities from Goose Bay on a regular weekly schedule.
